Forestville/Russian River is a year-round fishery. Summertime is the best time to fish for Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass, Catfish and Bluegill. Small Steelhead begin their run in September, with the larger Steelhead making their way in November up to the end of April. The best Shad fishing starts in April and continues thru June. Catfish are good fishing at this time as well. The Russian River can be fished from the shore, wading in, or by boat. Motor boats are allowed but most fisherman use a canoe or a kayak.
